I somewhat expected this, because it’s a Sony game that was likely to use PSN, but this means Marvel Tokon is now on a very short list of fighting games that don’t work on Linux, including 2XKO and the online mode of Dragon Ball FighterZ.

Fighting games shouldn’t even need invasive anti-cheat. Just send button inputs only, and if either client tries to mess with the game state it’ll gracefully desync.
There are still ways to cheat with legitimate inputs. You can have a cheat that auto detects when to use Baiken’s parry, for instance, and never let you land a hit. That’s one I’ve seen before. That said, it’s so rare that anti cheat is going to cost you more customers than it protects.
When a player does something super-human over and over I’d say that’s pretty easy to detect server-side.
It takes a trained eye to detect something like the above. They’ll even have toggles to adjust how often the computer cheats for them. Automating this detection will lead to false positives. But like I said, even without anti cheat, cheating is so rare.
For what it’s worth, the issue isn’t the rarity; it’s the scope of impact and undermining of the integrity of the product.
For highly competitive games, even the ability for players to say “there are cheaters, I know there are, and so I think that person is one of them” is a long-term sentiment drain that is not trivial. There are internal research numbers on what exposure to a single cheater does to players’ perception of game integrity and trust in the fairness of their experience, and it’s really really bad
At the skill level you’re likely to see a single cheater in a fighting game, you’ve already learned and conquered much of what the game has to show you, and I doubt that running into a cheater a few hundred hours later is going to deter you from competing. In this genre and community, we also know that ranked doesn’t count for as much as tournament results, online or off, and they’ll ban cheaters if they find them, no sweat.
“Ban cheaters if they find them” <= this is what anti-cheat is for, it’s not just prevention, it’s data collection to identify the cheaters who limit their cheating to just looking highly skilled
“I doubt that running into a cheater… is going to deter you from competing” <= People who compete at the level you’re talking about are the minority. Most players are non-vocal, online-only players who will bounce out just a few weeks after encountering anti-social behavior like cheating.
Most fighting games don’t even have anti-cheats and I don’t really see this big movement of people asking for them. With rollback netcode and crossplay becoming a standard in recently released fighting games (with some unfortunate exceptions, such as Under-Night II), the next things people have been asking for are replay takeovers and free access in training mode for DLC characters.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding something and apologies if I am, but if most players are non-vocal as in, don’t really voice their opinions online, how do you know they’ll bounce out due to cheating? Because from what I’ve read in forums, most people quit playing fighting games online for a number of reasons not even closely related to cheating, namely:
And for what it’s worth, I do see players complaining about cheating in fighting games online but I see as much (if not more) bragging about beating cheaters fair and square.
I think there are more customers who will now not buy the game than there are those who would stop due to a few cheaters. People who don’t compete at the level I do aren’t going to run into cheaters in the first place, because they rise to the top so quickly.

What is super human today could be considered just elite level tomorrow. Have you seen how pros play classic snes Tetris these days? It’s wild.
Oh yeah of course. Pack it up everybody, let’s not even try. We’ll just accept rootkits on our systems.
Holy straw man, Batman.
This is big “just fix the bug, duh” energy
If you’re this confident in how easy it is, you have the opportunity to make a fortune as the only person who can ‘just do it’ in the industry. You should get hired ASAP. I can refer you to the right people if you think you can pass the interview.
Is this cheating?
