It’s such a shame that still only Nova supports multi-page dock icons and icon swipe gestures 🥲

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Western Australian Police to Use Live Facial-Recognition Tech at "Major Events" and "Crowded Areas" for the First Time
6·9 days agoCommission Blanch said it was not his “intent” for the technology to be used at protests “except if we have intelligence that there is a significant risk of someone seeking to do harm”.
But he said that could be the case at the upcoming Land Forces defence expo, which Perth will host in October, if police had intelligence of a threat to that event
inb4 harm means Palantir top brass not being able to attend because there’s protestors blockading the event
Asked about the cameras, opposition leader Basil Zempilas said he supported police having more tools to do their job.
“I’ve always had the view if you haven’t done anything wrong, you haven’t got anything to worry about, and I’m not sure it’s any different when it applies to this,” he said.

661·23 days agoif the feature was “exploratory” why are they mad? you explored what the reaction would be by having the code behind a feature flag in prod and the response wasn’t good so you scrapped it? seems like you should be glad wired did you a solid by not having you waste engineering hours developing a feature nobody wanted.

World News@lemmy.world•Average person eats six times more chicken than in 1961, UN report findsEnglish
4·25 days agono animal produces b12 - it all comes from soil bacteria - which is why grass fed ruminants have b12
but practically no modern day meat farm relies on grass feeding only - even the “grass fed” get the bulk of their calories via feed (and therefore take b12 supplements)
if you’re arguing that we should go back to “the olden days” - meaning no more than 20% of your yearly calories being meat - or eating meat about once a week - then please don’t let me stop you - but at that point I’d much rather take my b12 supplements and not have to needlessly kill animals 🤷♀️

World News@lemmy.world•Italy suspends defence agreement with IsraelEnglish
62·3 months agoSeveral European countries paused or restricted arms exports with Israel during its military action in Gaza.
The offensive was triggered by the Hamas-led attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, which killed about 1,200 people, while 251 others were taken to Gaza as hostages.
More than 72,330 people were then killed by Israeli military action Gaza - including 757 since the ceasefire began on 10 October 2025 - according to the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry.
fuck the bbc - I know I shouldn’t be surprised anymore but the audacity to say “well acktually Isntreal was provoked to kill tens of thousands of civilians in Gaza (or that’s what the evil Khamas health ministry wants you to believe)” in an article about it’s invasion of Lebanon is insane
why not mention how they’ve killed hundreds of people in Lebanon - during a supposed ceasefire with Iran - so even if all those people were Hezbollah (spoilers they ain’t) it still wouldn’t be justified
at least with the likes of Fox or GBNews you know they’re wackos from the start - the fact most British people are swayed to believe anything the bbc says is a crime against critical thought

reposting my comment from the other such post:
even when reporting on literal child murder they had to finish the article with an IOF quote saying how they’re just “killing terrorists” - which while I get the backhanded approach to showing how out of touch that is - I can guarantee there’s people out there that will think “well killing kids is obviously bad but the soldiers are just protecting civilians from terrorists so it’s an unfortunate sacrifice - if they didn’t want Palestinian kids to get killed Hamas shouldn’t have started the war”
especially when they say:
but doesnt even consider mentioning that just in 2022 alone Israel had killed practically as many children as Hamas did on Oct 7th - or the fact that 2,171 Palestinian children had been killed since 2000 by Israeli forces and settlers…
