I agree that 12 years isn’t “long past” the lifespan if a computer, but that’s also an aggressive and very implausible worst case scenario.

The very smart people working on their architecture and chip design are very much not the same people who are working on their desktop software.

Not if they’re referencing a specific 650 million. North America has about that many people but punches well above its weight in power usage per capita.

Sounds like she did and the city just ignored it.

I love how I’m being promoted to use AI on an article about the excessive resource use of AI.

Not sure of the specifics on the article, but astronomical voids are their own specific thing, not just the vacuum of space.
They are operating under the assumption that the “best music of your life” that you’re talking about does not have significant overlap with current top hits. If that assumption holds true then you may well follow the trend shown when asked to rate hit music.

If that were true we wouldn’t have anti-vaxxers, flat earth, or religion.

I agree. I’m not saying kernel level anti-cheat is acceptable, but the reporting on this has been a disaster. Making things up to try to make them look worse doesn’t actually help anyone.

No, because it’s misreported. Nothing was bricked.

Good thing they didn’t then. Nothing was actually bricked, people are misusing the term.

Oh! That’s cool then. 580 is the last version that supports Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta, latest is 595. But yeah there were still releases in the 580 driver branch as recently as last month. So that’s cool.

Soon? Support for Kepler was dropped years ago. Driver version 470 is the last one that supports the 700 series.

Several years ago I was looking to set up a media server and initially grabbed Plex because I’d heard so much good about it at the time. The moment it asked me to create an account with Plex during setup and I discovered this wasn’t optional I immediately uninstalled it.
I remain baffled that anyone was okay with needing an externally managed account in order to use software running entirely on their own hardware, let alone the litany of additional enshittification that has happened since.

My time zone is quite specific and has only about 500,000 people in it

This happened to me on a nextra docs sure I use for one of my projects. Copilot added its attribution to a two line commit that added two items to a page’s _meta.json file. I was baffled as to what copilot could even had potentially have done to help.
This wasn’t a test for any kind of neurodivergence, but on a test for a job many years ago I was presented with the question “would you ever think about taking money from the cash register?”
So… Clearly the answer they wanted was “no”, right? But the act of reading and understanding the question requires you to think about taking money from the cash register! Even if just to reject the idea.
I answered “yes” thinking I was so clever for spotting their trick question. Turns out that was not their intent and I grossly over thought it.
I did not get the job.

…what porn are you watching where you learn that 2 hours every day is normal? Are there pornos out there with multi-day narratives that are longer than feature films?
Clearly this couple had grossly mismatched sexual appetites, but I don’t see how porn is to blame for thinking it’s normal to go that long that often.
The question you’re really asking requires more robust definitions of “material” and “old” then you usually deal with.
The Steam Deck OLED has a 90Hz display.
