Agree! I was disappointed when I switched my work laptop from a Windows laptop to a Mac. Nice hardware, nice battery life, nice integration with my iCloud/phone. Some things you have to get used to. Others are, in my mind, idiotic stuff (I’m looking at you, Task Switcher, third party mouse support, and keyboard troubles when remoting to Windows servers, weird keyboard shortcuts, just to name a few).

Overall it’s better than Windows but it just have some other quirks that I never thought would be a problem/challenge. I’ve gotten used to most and found solutions others most, but still got the biggest issue with the keyboard on remote servers.

  • That’s what people keep saying (and yes, only in the EU are alternative browser engines allowed), however other browsers on iOS can create a decent browser experience. A few things that aren’t supported on FF iOS, that IMO should have been available a long time ago and stops me from using FF anywhere as I want syn mobile with my desktop browser:

    • Rearrange icons (web site shortcuts) on the FF Start Page. Also, not synced
    • Very limited custom search engine settings (no search suggestions supported, very few search engines to choose from)
    • No auto close old inactive tabs

  • I’m sure Debian would implode if any big corp started to make “hostile” changes to it. It was by some considered controversial to include non free firmware by default - that should tell you a little about how much people care about Debian, as including the non free by default is against the core of opensource.

  • It took me a while before making the jump with the home laptop. I had tried several times since 2004 but always had some issues with WiFi or graphics. With Debian 12 I heard good stuff so when Debian 13 was released I installed it and no issues whatsoever.

But I will say some of the forums I visited back in the days where not as friendly as now. RTFM was a common thing you got thorn in the face when you had issues - and the manual did not always work.
