That is somewhat scapegoating your feelings. Yes things are bad and expensive, but there should be a little circle of influence in your life where you feel you can do positive things for yourself and others.
I didn’t mind phone calls about 5 years ago when people would talk into an ear piece, but nowadays people talk to an open room with loudspeaker on and their poor mic is doing overtime trying to resolve the garbled mess. When I talk with my cousin, it’s like they’re either drowning or going through a roller coaster
Happened in a train. Toddler was really putting it on and everyone knew. I felt like going up to the toddler and saying something, but thankfully one of the parents snapped and started hitting their kid. I sat down and resumed my journey content
This is all I need, this is all I need to know
I’ll be lost until the music takes control
Hard to contain a plant and a cure like this. Science has a weird way of several people discovering the same thing around the same time.
It’s like the conditions that made it probable for one person to discover it are the same conditions that make it probable for 10 people to discover it.

3·17 days agoIt was a good insight into how the lightbulb dimming tech of the 80s/90s worked. Also why the dimmer switches back then were so dangerous with the capacitor likely just a few mm’s away from the light switch which might not have been properly wired because UK homes back then didn’t run a neutral back from the switch, but daisy-chained the switch and the bulb together and then ran the neutral back from the bulb

Thanks for the interesting read. Real nifty little timing/switching circuit!
I use the mantra: “Why am I so stressed. How can I destress. Is it just this one fucking task that is stressing me. Maybe just do a little bit and see how you feel. Okay and now a bit more.”

1·22 days agoI’ve jumped in Nix/Guix many times and always jumped back out. Sometimes you just want to edit a system file without second guessing or rebuilding the system. Same battle as initRC vs SystemD. Sometimes you just want to tinker live, because there are bigger battles elsewhere and going down a productivity sink hole of immutability is not something you can easily explain away at 3am

1·22 days agowelcome to life as an AwesomeWM user. After a normal system upgrade – oh look my Lua version is incompatible with the libraries I need, guess I need to build them from scratch and tell my WM to use them
She probably didn’t see them as people. Just like a lot of soldiers who go abroad, kill innocents, and come right back without batting an eye. Then they have a violent incident in the US and suddenly their family turns on them
Isn’t that just how the families of soldiers react when their favorite testosterone machine comes back from tour and has issues fitting back in
Arthur Christmas is the best christmas movie ever made and I will literally fight anyone to defend this
“They’re made of cheesits.”
“Cheesits?”
“Cheesits. Those orange fuzzy things that crunch. One of their world leaders even looks like one.”
“But how do they communicate?”
"They rub their cheesit bodies together to make non-commital sounds like ‘I cant even’ "
“That’s too weird. Let’s quarantine this place and get the hell out of here.”
“Agreed. At least they cant harm us out here.”
David Blaine teleports behind them both with a pack of cards.
I think when first contact happens between loved ones, a common reality is unconsciously agreed upon where the family comes together under the bodies they inhabited at the time they were all together.
Since the long deceased ones have likely watched the life of the newly deceased with interest, I think that initial reality is then slowly pushed away and the (grown) children take on their more mature forms and the grand parents take on their younger forms, and they all walk away from the meeting as equals
That’s how I’d do it
We were a major financial contributor to the EU. We also laundered a lot of money to them that we would then get back as EU benefits, it was a weird financial win-win situation for us and the EU
I think we would be welcomed back, but I do expect some concessions to be pulled as punishment and as a warning to other countries with out of control loudspeaker groups signalling to come out

I grew up with someone at school who literally did not understand empathy, happily stole from his classmates, but knew how to apologise with fake sincerity when caught.
His parents didn’t seem like bad people, but people who had tried both positive and negative reinforcement and it just didn’t take.
I think he learned early on in life that he could do bad things to good people, and those good people would forgive him again and again. His friends learned to distance themselves, but his family? Oh gosh, what could they even do
