65·21 days agoYeah did that with my dad. As soon as he expressed that he doesn’t believe in conventional scientific methodology and academic consensus, I stopped discussing any of those topics with him.
No basis to discuss if he doesn’t even consider evidence for disproving his theories.
Weird I managed to keep a few over the span of years. But it’s also hyper specific knowledge domains, so I don’t think it qualifies as a hobby.

They just admitted they knew it was bad and were like “but it’s legal in the US so it’s fine to send it there” but ignore it’s about as bad as it gets for legal symbols.

Autism@lemmy.world•How to you feel about using autism as a joking synonym for "dumb" or "awkward"?
14·27 days agoI think it’s one of those cases where the actual definition and the cultural definition deviate, and I accept that people are kinda just being a bit funny.
If people are using it to be degrading or berating, I will call it out (or just not interact with those people anymore) but I usually think it’s meant to be a bit self-critical, funny and endearing. I don’t really mind in that case, because it’s not said in offense, and I appreciate people making fun of themselves every once in a while.

4·1 month agoIf the VPN is for phoning home, of course there’s free client and server software.
But if it’s for spoofing a different location, you either get found out, or you have to pay.
I wanna live in a world where I do not pay for anything but there is stuff that you can only really get if you pay.

2·1 month agoAround 16 with autism and around 24 with ADHD. I got a headstart on other people, though it still is daily work to figure out what that means and slowly get better at humaning.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•I built a 90.7kb tool that bypasses Windows screen capture protection. Should I open source it?
18·2 months agoIt really depends on if you think this is a genuine exploit or not. If it is, look up Microsoft’s track record on complying with disclosure and make yourself familiar with responsible disclosure guidelines.
If it’s not then you just need to look into the EULA of the specific windows parts affected, so they don’t pull your repository. Because that’s usually the biggest thing they do if you don’t specifically start fights with these companies.
Generally, you’re probably fine. If you want me to look over it I can give you my discord or fluxer or whatever. Not an expert, just a Cybersecurity enthusiast.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Blender change the Anthropic AI funding deal, with discussions planned for AI Policies
11·2 months agoYeah I’m 100% sure they are doing this A) for good PR (blender is a beloved app and funding them is awesome) b) to retain communication with the team for easier agent integration later c) to lobby for their AI.
I can totally understand that it doesn’t look great if blender accepts the money.
I am sure though that blender could probably need the money; open source software is criminally underfunded and those devs need money to survive at the end of the day.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•'It Was a Positive': Resident Evil Requiem Dev Is Pleased by Heated Reaction to DLSS 5 Grace[Kumazawa: "they really liked the original design of Grace and didn't want to see it changed was a positive]English
21·2 months agoTo me the title suggests the dev made the DLSS design intentionally worse, to generate controversy and now he is happy with the result.
The text actually explains that the devs just heard about the DLSS 5 alterations and were happy people loved the old design so much. Nothing controversial from him, not even intentional new designs.
Sounds like you got it right at first glance and I didn’t. However, often these titles are intentionally misleading as to generate more outrage “you should be mad at the developer for creating controversies and being smug about the outcry”. Not a fan of those manipulative tactics in modern journalism or whatever it calls itself currently.

375·2 months agoYeah that’s not even misleading, this is insinuating the opposite of what the dev means. That’s manipulative af. Whoever decided to use this title is a massive dick.
