1·2 months agoRating roads sounds like a useful way to crowdsource! I noticed that RideWithGPS has heat maps, which I think is a similar idea in that it’s data on which roads cyclists prefer. But I didn’t see any indication that the app takes heat map data into account for generated routes.

2·2 months agoThat’s a helpful tip; thanks! OsmAnd+ also works offline - searching for locations, generating routes, and navigation all work if you download a regional map ahead of time.

4·2 months agoMy e-bike has gotten me more confident and interested in biking! I’ve done some social rides, and for those I turn the motor off. I was surprised how well my 50 lb bike rides unassisted (after a couple of years of e-biking on class 1 bikes, getting me in better pedaling shape). Even with a 1x9 drive train I didn’t have any trouble with hills that some other riders struggled with. Last weekend I went on a 21 mile ride unassisted with no problem!

2·3 months agoThere’s also lithium iron phosphate (LFP) which doesn’t catch on fire either, and has been around longer. There are trade-offs, like sodium being vastly more plentiful than lithium.

Another use I’ve found for that strap: closing a bag of pretzels
