A bit of an off topic thing to ask, but as long as it’s not a crime to buy it, why do you care if it’s anonymous or not? It’s like withdrawing cash in a bank. Yes, the bank may know that you withdrew cash, but what happens with that cash and where you spent it is entirely up to you and it’s very hard to track it.
Never buy and spend with the same address and it should be private enough just by design.
Convincing people to use it is also hard.
When I’m looking for a package that’s not in the official repos, I add only either popular repos with active maintainers who do regular updates or ones from packagers I know personally.
First one is hard to fake for obvious reasons. I guess someone could try to know me personally and somehow engineer a situation where I would want to have a piece of software that they package, but that’s arguably even harder to pull off and is certainly not worth it for stealing one nerd’s worth of money.

Usually people who buy ads pay for clicks on those ads.
So, the idea is to register a click on the ad, which makes the business pay the ad agency it’s commission, but not actually visit or look at their website, which is the whole point of buying an ad.
If businesses see that paying ad agencies brings little to no actual customers, they stop buying ads. One can only hope.

That said, I don’t use it myself, mostly because of bandwidth and processing cost reasons. I also don’t care about it that much. Ads suck, but I barely see any of them due to my browsing habits.
FreeTube supports external players, if you use it as a tool to find videos instead of watching them, it works fairly reliably, such breakage of feed grabbing hasn’t happened in years. Then you just grab the videos with MPV via yt-dlp, not only MPV is a much better player than practically anything else, but yt-dlp contributors are much faster at figuring out problems and implementing fixes.

Systems built on unspoken rules break outside of isolated communities, considering this is very much a global community, I doubt such a system would work in the first place. Would be actually cool to have various degrees of warning tags to then choose on the client side what to unblur automatically and what not to, though.
For me NSFW is something that can get me fired if somebody sees it on my screen during working hours or something that can put the consumer of the content at risk, like gore images making hemophobic people faint. I can see how this image can be a bit disturbing, but I don’t think a piece of leather should be censored, as it dilutes the meaning for the tag too much.

Please never delete application’s .desktop files unless you created them yourself. It can confuse both you and your package manager. If you want some file type to never be opened by a program, override it’s .desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications instead.
While I can use any of the mentioned stuff (apart from MacOS, I suppose), there is one type of person that scares me. A wild LFS daily driver.
MPV is pretty much a gold standard for video players, it’s a bit more keyboard focused, but basic functionality is fully accessible through the GUI.
But I don’t think VLC should struggle with embedded subtitles. Maybe you can feed your video file to ffprobe and share the output for a bit of troubleshooting?
My highest ratio on a transfer is on one I had for almost a year and a half and it’s 48.44 GiB down to 1.676 TiB up, which amounts to around 490 for ratio. Everybody loves this collection of Linux ISOs, it looks like.
