  • So now you’re casually dropping $500 extra on a 4K monitor? For that kind of cash, get a $720 PC and a $280 1440p monitor. It’s not 4K, but it’s 60 fps, and that’s honestly way more important. You can also play with keyboard and mouse so you can actually aim.

And okay, fine, maybe you don’t want to break the law. In that case, go play any of the thousands of excellent indie or 5+ year old PC games that cost less than $10 on sale. You’re still much better off than buying console games.

  • You can play tons of good games on a PC that is cheaper up-front than a Playstation 5. Get a second-hand 720p or 1080p monitor for $30. Spend 1 day to build a $470 PC (logical increments has a good parts list and it’s easier than legos). Install Linux. Start pirating.

Even if you count that day as $200 in lost opportunities (in which case you would logically be making at least $6000 after taxes per month, or over $100k per year before taxes), that still means it’s cheaper upfront to have a PC with hundreds of games than a PS5 with one (1) game.

  • Being fully for or against women’s rights are absurd positions too. What, you support a woman’s right to execute people in the street? (based, but also: no, that would be horrible, terfs and white supremacist women suck).

And yet we can still say that supporting women’s rights is good and opposing women’s rights is bad. Taking “anti-AI” to mean an opposition to all artificial intelligence, from GPT to calculators, is failing to take people in good faith.

You chose to write a comment to another human being about how you would like to be treated. Imagine if, through doing that, the people you still have to interact with in your daily life learn to actually treat you that way - that too is community.

A neighbor getting groceries for you so you don’t have to go for an overstimulating store and so you can have them arrive at your door within a one minute interval from 10:00 to 10:01 on tuesday and friday is community. Someone tailoring your shirts so you don’t notice any friction against your skin anymore is community.

The tools that capitalism can provide are depersonalized, poorly fitting, and often malicious, but a community can work with you can come to understand you and learn to fit your needs better than anything you’re likely to be able to buy.
