  • 90s Civic or Miata has been my dream forever, I’m with ya.

Two pieces of modern tech, though: security and sound.

90s Civics were notoriously easy to steal, so I’d definitely want something to prevent that.

When I was younger, I’d always dreamed of having a nice sound system in my car, but could never afford to do it. Now that I have a car with a super nice sound system and a sub, I can never go back. No “infotainment” BS tho, just gimme a standard deck. USB support is nice, but an aux jack is all I really need.

  • Smells is like an opposite trigger for me! With some very strong exceptions, I’m extremely smell… oriented? Anything from “Amazing” to just “interesting”. Some smells trigger a flight response though, and my brain says I gotta get away ASAP. Fertilizer/doodoo/stomach acid/most rot/ammonia/the kitchen drain trap goo after they haven’t been cleaned for a long time/mold make me panic a little and I gotta get away from it.

  • My partner got me a GPU a while back (oh my god I looked it up and it was ten years ago aaaaaaaaa) that was an incredible deal for its power, but had a TON of reports of coil whine. I was delighted to hear nothing from it the first few days of playing! Then it promptly died. To death. To shreds, even. ah well, it happens, better now than out of return period. I sent it back for a replacement and got another one, TERRIFIED its replacement would be an auditory nightmare after being lucky the first time.

I got lucky the second time, and it still works to this day!

I feel you on that one. Cotton balls don’t bother me, but I know that’s a nightmare for my mum. That and just the idea of

The Idea that some might not wanna think about

    chewing tin foil

(I’m sorry to put that in anyone’s head if that bothers them oh god lemme spoiler that just in case) bothers her a ton but doesn’t really hit for me.

Electronic sounds can be a nightmare. I love CRTs but I can’t be around many of them because they hit my brain in The Bad Spot. One tiny benefit to my tinnitus is I’ve found a few CRTs that seem to have a similar/the same frequency so I can be around them when they’re on!

  • Thank you for your thoughtful perspective! I didn’t mean to be so harsh on the game—it just really didn’t hit for me. I think honestly the “adult versions of characters imagining themselves but younger” wasn’t something I even thought of; I took the dialogue as if it was just coming straight from the writers. That’s an interesting way to frame it, and I should take another look with that in mind.

I’m also about the right age bracket, maybe a tad older? My childhood and teen years generally ranged from boring to “pretty alright” with a little bad sprinkled in though; very little gives me nostalgia for that time of my life. I suppose that’s a good thing? Kinda? I dunno. But thank you again! :3 I have not played any DA games but I do have some, and I’ve heard they’re great. The beginning of DA2 you describe sounds great, hahaha
