Technology@lemmy.world•Canada wants to join the age verification bandwagon and censor the internet with Bill C-34English
2·12 days agoEnd capitalism. It’s no coincidence all these countries are pushing this in lockstep.
End goal is the death of online freedom.
Get angry, get involved in your local politics to bring democracy to the workplace and the economy.
It’s not gonna get better otherwise.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft's new Outlook takes 10 seconds to do what Outlook Classic does instantly on WindowsEnglish
2·12 days agoIf they try to retire classic outlook I’m gonna riot.
Windows 11 is bad and I was unhappy when I got moved onto it, but is bearable. New outlook is unusable if you get a large number of emails every day for work.
They decided: let’s rebuild it with none of the features!!

Technology@lemmy.world•You Can Now Get a Religious Exemption From Using AI at WorkEnglish
1·16 days agoIt’s funny because in Australia it’s even non-religious (well the churches I’ve heard of).
That’s how based the UU is.
All be welcome, yo.
Seek the truth and serve humanity.
Either ~4.55 L (imperial) or ~3.79 L (US).
Ugh. Why do they do this to us?

World News@lemmy.world•Football fans have been outraged to discover that getting to some World Cup stadiums via public transit will cost $80English
2·26 days agoI think this deserves a chuckle at most. I visited Sydney with 2 other people, and the train was literally going within 250 metres of the hotel we booked.
Didn’t take the train because a cab worked out cheaper, absolutely ridiculous.
Public-private partnerships, not even once…

2·2 months agoThat’s what I was thinking. In what country can a foreign country sue you in your own country?

1·2 months agoAnd this is a very stupid state of affairs, in my opinion.
Fuck the crown, and the former Governor General John Kerr specifically
You’d think they’d change DNA test methodologies so this sort of thing doesn’t happen again

2·2 months agoJapan, have an extremely high murder conviction rate. They do this by not labeling it a murder unless they find the murderer and enough evidence.
Press X to doubt that their false conviction rate is actually significantly lower

21·2 months agoFrom one socialist (me) to another (you, presumably), the lemmy.ml hate comes from:
- Conservatives who dislike socialism
- Liberals who dislike socialism
- Socialists who think Stalin and Mao were anti-democratic fuckheads, and don’t enjoy being around “socialists” who like them.
I like Lemmy, but can at the same time dislike people who like things I consider to be authoritarian, even if those people created the platform in the first place.
Viewing lemmy.ml content on ‘All-Top’ is a rather happy medium for me, still get to see some of the best memes

22·2 months agoAmerica is a capitalist hellscape, but so is China.

3·2 months agoI’m with you on being against capitalism, but UBI isn’t convincing as a solution to me.
UBI pre-supposes that the rich and their corporations should have a monopoly on the means of production, and you still have capitalism, just that the population are guaranteed an income via high taxes. But the power structure, and undemocratic nature of capitalist controlling everything still exists.
UBI is some dystopian stuff if you don’t combine it with getting rid of the ruling class and the other tools of capitalist oppression.
But yeah, I agree with you that we certainly ought to be working less than we are (yes, even if standards of living were more fairly distributed to poor countries), and in the future I also agree with you that we ought to be working way, way less of technology allows for it.
Can someone who feels pain everyday (uses imperial) explain wtf HL/17 is supposed to mean?
No worries friend :)
You can place things anywhere down to the pixel, not just snapped to a grid like with Nova (though, there is option for a grid of apps, also).
It’s a bit of fiddly process if it’s complicated, but you can layer and place things however you want.
There is no dock, you can however pin items to show on every screen, which is basically the same thing, so that would also fit that criterion.
Also 4 swipe directions on icons for extra shortcuts beyond tap (last I used nova, it was just up and down? It’s been many years).
Basically, can highly recommend Total Launcher, though in fairness, I have not tried some of the other launchers listed by others here.
The one time fee for pro is pretty affordable, iirc. The Dev is also pretty responsive via email
If crazy levels of customisation is the reason you use it, Total Launcher did the trick for me.
