I think publishers realized this a while ago which is why pre orders usually come with a free skin, or early access, or something like that.
Don’t get me wrong, I still think pre ordering a digital item is stupid as hell, but there are definitely people in the boat of “I’m 100% going to buy it no matter what, and this gets me the game a week early” - so for them it makes sense.
Weird. Monthly updates used to be pretty harmless with a bunch of little bug fixes that really only affected a few people. Then AI came out, and in the past 6 months or so every patch Tuesday has been a complete disaster. It’s almost as if they laid off a bunch of engineers and now have the remaining ones just vibe coding shit while using the same LLM to do code review and everything is going to hell. Not that it was a phenomenal product to begin with, but when you have engineers vibe coding patches for such a delecate platform, it’s going to end in disaster.

And the thing is. I like text heavy decision-based games. Like I could go on and on about Shadowrun Dragonfall. But Disco Elysium was just so drab. It just felt like a slog of memorization, and when I gave up on trying to do that I was like “okay, I’ll just play and do whatever I feel like” the game punished me. Maybe people like that? I don’t know… Like… Maybe I like games for escapism? So playing some peice of shit alcoholic didn’t do it for me? It just felt like a depressing version of a good game. People kept telling me “you just need to keep playing it gets so good”. At like 6 hours in when it’s not good yet, you failed at good story telling and you failed at good game development. To each their own I guess.
I used to work IT in a hospital, and you would be surprised how many medical devices still run Windows 7 or even XP. Offline devices, of course. And behind locked doors. But stuff for scopes etc.

I love to shit on middle management as much as anybody else, but good managers are great. My manager worked his way up as a systems architect. He’s incredibly smart, very friendly, and always has my back.
What getting rid of middle management does is build a solid wall between the workers and the upper class. There’s no corporate ladder to climb. If you start at the bottom, you stay at the bottom. The people on top hire their buddies and other people in their class. This is like a drone strike on the shrinking middle class.

This old Korean MMO called Nexus TK. I think it was Nexon’s first game (Arc Raiders). Picked it up in like… 1997? I played it very heavily for a few years on and off. When I say heavily I mean like 4-5 hours a day. It got bad at some points. Got off of it at times but always went back. I still pop on every now and then just to say hi to the hundred or so people who still play.

Anyway, if you like the features an ease-of-use of Nova, and you are looking for an alternative, Smart Launcher all day. A played with so many of the other launchers mentioned in this thread before I found SL, and it really feels like the best to me. But that’s just like, my opinion, man.
This game is still a staple at LAN parties. And yes, LAN parties are still a thing.
I work for an org with ~1700 Surface Laptop 7 ARM deployed. They are actually really nice. Managing them with Intune is a breeze (including BIOS management), and Windows ARM is actually getting 3rd party app support now (Thanks, Apple!)
