For the steam deck where 99% of people will use it with steam, selling at a loss is acceptable, so they do it.
The steam machine is just a pc, so they can’t make sure that people use steam, hence the normal market price.
That’s not even the issue, it simply isn’t worth it for chip manufactors to ramp up production.
Chip manufacturing is so expensive that machines have to run at 100% capacity to make reasonable profit margins from consumer hardware. Investment in new factories is only worth it if the demand stays high for 10+ years, which simply doesn’t seem to be the case. Most AI companies will collapse in the next few years and while AI in itself will probably survive, the hardware craze will eventually die down a bit.
With the current hardware prices there isn’t much profit to gain here.
The main difference to other consoles is that they don’t sell at a loss to keep you in their ecosystem like PlayStation and Nintendo do. Valve could afford the cheap prices of the steam deck since its a bit tricky to use as a normal PC, but the steam machine is literally just a PC, selling it at a loss would be stupid for them.
They do though. The point of captchas isn’t to block all bots, that’s never going to happen. They are there to block the low effort bot army that’s rampaging across the internet which is effectively a DDOS stack on smaller servers.
Big AI companies throw petabytes of Data into their models. Instead of crawling and saving it once, they just index each site worth using and scrap the data each time they train a model. As a server owner you either block the scrappers with a captcha or you blanked ban IP ranges that are known for scraping.
90% of SpaceXs assets are in AI Datacenters that are running grok, I wouldn’t call that any good stuff, even in terms of AI. Apart from that they grifted a lot of money from the US government to produce rockets that are worse than what NASA could have delivered with the money.
The only “good” thing spaceX made is Starlink, which has about 12 million subscribers and brings in a revenue of 11 billion each year, with about 4 billion in profits. That’s nothing compared to big network companies.

That’s a somewhat valid argument against letting servers run indefinetly, but SKG is about a lot more than just that.
They don’t have to delist their games, making them unobtainable, when there is single player content you can do. They also should be forced to remove allways online requirements that are solely there as an anti piracy measure when they shut down the authentication servers.
As for multiplayer only, people have reverse engineered server protocols for some games just so they can spin up dedicated servers themselfs after the official servers shutdown. It would be trivial for a game company to ship a dedicated server file with their game so people can still play it.
The “cybersecurity risk” argument is about equivalent to the “think of the children” argument that’s always used for online age verification. It sounds completely plausible only as long as you don’t read past the headline, but can be dismissed fairly easy after that.
Teams is anything but a basic messaging app. Over the last few years Microshit kept integrating most of their office suit into it instead of keeping their standalone apps working beyond Excel and Word. Now you have chats, teams, calls, calendar, SharePoint, planner, to-do, power BI and a million other things in one place, and only 90% of them don’t work properly.
Besides, the new™ Teams is pretty much just an instance of edge with 10+ tabs open den being on the amount of addins your company has. The entire app is literally just build in edge webview, its a reskinned browser with slightly more privileges.

Windows doesn’t have the ability to edit running files, it quite literally can’t update the system without shutting everything down.
That’s only the case because it was the cheapest option available for a while. Oil execs noticed the trend and got cold feet, now a lot of governments are cutting back subsidies for renewables and actively hinder new projects being build. Here in germany we have investors abandoning half build solar parks cause they aren’t profitable anymore. At the same time we allow oil companies to bid for gigantic offshore projects just so they can say that they have no interest in actually building it after they won.
With the ozon hole you could see the world working together to fix it despite it beeing somewhat less profitable. With renewables you can see governments actively working against the movement despite it being the best in terms of environment and profits combined.
You will still get residue on your walls over time. Doing it once won’t cause harm, but prolonged indoor use is just shitty for everyone.
It does kinda fit. The main part that changes between the “levels” of a diagnosis is the severity of symptoms and how much they impact your ability to take part in society. If car and SUV are too close for you, then we can also compare a normal car with a three wheeled one. Its kinda different but still the same. Capitalism may force companies to increase earnings, which is already stupid enough in itself, but the timeframe that’s measured in got reduced so much in the last few years that even short term goals are impossible without cutting costs.
Ten years ago monthly earnings were at most an indicator, what mattered most were fiscal years. It slowly evolved to quarterly earnings and now we are at a point were a single “bad” (as in, not as much profit as last month) can plunge your stock prices by 10+%.

Autism and adhd are classified as disorders instead of diseases for a reason. Disorders per definition disrupt normal/expected body functions and don’t necessarily have any underlying cause. Neurological disorders are just a collection of issues that disrupt your ability to take part in society as the majority would expect.
And anyone struggling with it will tell you that, while it may have been normal human behaviour a few hundred years ago, its fucking exhausting to get trough life with it in this age.
I know where you are coning from. With how much shits hitting the fan right now I don’t know if I’d want that lable on me officially. But at the same time does getting diagnosed open up a way to easier help and accommodation for issues that are 100% real.

There is no evidence as of now. There are scientific hypothesis regarding this exact thing that sound plausible as a standalone thing but there hasn’t been any observational evidence regarding it.
