World News@lemmy.world•Average person eats six times more chicken than in 1961, UN report finds
191·22 days agoHuh, I’m eating less meat than I ever have. Shit’s expensive plus stuff like garbanzo beans are surprisingly tasty and protein packed. Plus, it’s way healthier for you.

1·1 month agoWow, I can ride faster than that on my 30+lb hardtail (I’ve got it modified for more comfortable commutes). Even 45kph seems slow, I figured it’d be more like 50-60kph for an actual moped.

6·1 month agoIDK I think the “bike lanes” that are actually just fucking gutters that have never been cleaned or maintained is a more infuriating sign: Paint doesn’t really protect people but places that put up these “bike lanes” give themselves a big pat on the back, put up bullshit “bike friendly” signs, and then DGAF when a cyclist is killed or injured by another shitty driver who will barely be held accountable, if at all.

3·2 months agoThat might be a little high actually lol, guess it depends on the bike, speed, and how much it’s hauling. You could also buy a solar charger, then it’s free after the cost of the charger and you don’t have to worry about power outages.

3·2 months agoTime to start growing your own food? If you have space, potatoes are pretty easy.
If you don’t have space, even a little hydroponic garden and window planters can yield a surprising amount of food and fresh herbs are way better than the dehydrated stuff. We’ve also got this little cube thing that grows edible sprouts in about a week: They’re great on sandwiches as a lettuce replacement and are super healthy.

1·4 months agoReally? I’ve seen them on high end touring bikes and have ridden mine (just a Folder, nothing crazy) through all sorts of shit.
Don’t get me wrong, chains are amazing, but belts are still pretty good in their own right. They’re both good, just different IMO.
Still if I had to pick something for touring, I’d probably still opt for a chain because they’re so easy to source anywhere in the world.

1·4 months agoSeems odd that CC itself would use much extra power: What’s your ride? My EP2 has CC and I have not noticed any impact on battery using it vs not using it. In fact, keeping CC at a lowish speed seems to prolong the battery life a bit on mine, even with no pedaling assuming all other things equal.

1·4 months agoWhy not just go easier on the throttle? Or drop it to a lower level you program to 12mph at the lowest or second lowest?

Technology@lemmy.world•Mozilla’s new CEO is doubling down on an AI future for Firefox
0·6 months agoMost people in tech that I know hate AI, including devs. I know one manager who is gung ho for it but everyone is annoyed by him and he was already well known for going apeshit over whatever the latest tech buzzword is before the whole AI craze kicked off.
Anecdotal I suppose, but IMO, most people who are actually technical seem to treat AI with a good degree of skepticism if not outright disdain.

Black beans and rice is a good combo, complimentary proteins too!
