13·1 day agoClassic Hasbro trying to brute force success when they have no clue what they‘re working with. One can only hope nobody takes on the project when Hasbro approaches them. Best thing that could happen is that nobody really cares and the game is forgotten quickly since it would be nothing like any of the other BG games. Worst case it tarnishes the franchise forever.

Games@lemmy.world•**5 Reasons Chinese Players Give Positive/Negative Reviews on Steam — What Are YOUR Standards for Rating a Game?**English
6·3 days agoThere‘s a current trend in AAA to not properly localize games in other languages than English and many German players are very vocal about it in comment sections of reviews on Youtube.
If you‘re an indie game it‘s kind of expected to not ship with a German voice over but Germans expect it when they pay upwards of 50€ for a game.
Things simply are properly localized in Germany. People expect things to be German. Even Nintendo understood that when they started to voice Zelda games for example. I think a lot of AAA studios are about to learn this the hard way.

Games@lemmy.world•French retailer mocks €1039 Steam Machine with “Stim Machine” RX 9060 XT PC for €999English
3·4 days agoHow do Steam machine users charge their Steam Controller then? Just with a USB-C cable? I prefer my external pug to that. The Steam Controller would be kind of a silly product if you wouldn‘t get a good experience without a Steam Machine so this argument is kind of silly too if you ask me. Would be cool if the controller came with a proper stand, though. You shouldn‘t expect your customers to own a 3D printer even though I totally support Valve embracing it but the controller really feels incomplete without it.

42·4 days agoGood support and Valve? Like, I get people rushing in to defend GabeN here. Especially considering the Summer Sale is currently ongoing. But their support is shit. From my experience you either like what they give you or you get your money back. Little to nothing in between. Gaming Jesus doesn‘t really do compromises so can we at least stop pretending Steam Support is an actual functional instance? It definitely was‘t for me so far and neither do I expect it to be at this point.

Games@lemmy.world•Solved or not, what games have great detailed mysteries/conspiracy theories that you can completely miss?English
12·6 days agoPortal 2 has a big one that I think most people miss. You can find the biggest clue at the „bring your kid to work day“ exhibit where one submission of (I think it was) a potato plant was signed by a kid named „Chell“. Same name as the protagonist. It‘s easy to miss but it puts the entire story (many parts of which you can also miss) into a new perspective. I always loved that and was very surprised to her many players completely missed the connection there.

7·8 days agoThis really reflects the reverse spiral gaming hardware has seen in recent years. The benchmarks are absolutely laughable for what you could get for the same price just a year ago. Go back 2 years and the gap is even larger. Gamers are being priced out by AI slop generators.

3·8 days agoGaming isn‘t standing still though, it‘s reverting. You can‘t get the same hardware you got 5 years ago for the same price anymore. Hardware ALWAYS got cheaper until recently. This is truly unprecedented.

2·8 days agoIt‘s not about lack of skill as prebuilt machines that go for roughly the same are more powerful as well. All the Steam Machine really has going for it is the size. That‘s it. Don‘t need your machine to be a tiny cube sitting under the TV? Get literally anything else. Want a Steam gaming system? SteamOS is free for everyone.
Really the most remarkable thing here is the software with SteamOS and Proton. By a long shot. Those are the big things we should be discussing.
The Gabecube will fade into obscurity in no time. It‘s unimportant and unremarkable.
