One of my all time favorites. Enjoy!
my brother and I were obsessed with this game growing up
there’s a race/class with a specific kind of weapon and the aesthetic was so cool and unique to us
I won’t spoil because you might not think of that class as playable until you see it
I recommend looking at how to change classes as it’s a pretty hidden system where you unlock first (through luck) then after unlocking you know the requirements
One of the earliest SNES games I remember playing. Quite addicting, forget if I ever saw the ending.
This is The Knight of Lodis, a prequel to the SNES game.
I think I remember that one! Some of the units are people with wings I think?
Just had the funny idea to label a Shrek game with the Tactics Ogre sticker and leave it somewhere
I tried the GBA version the other day in browser. Loved the graphics, but the dialogue was the typical Japanese-style soap operatic mess, and the battle control, tedious as hell.
For example, very first battle, and you have to wait minutes to even get your turn started because it’s setup for the other side to move first. 😑
I replayed the remake on Switch and the fast forward function is a better feature than all the other things they’ve changed in the remake.
Oh, snap, that sound great.
Would have made a world of difference for me, and I guess loads of kids in the 90’s.
I haven’t played it yet but iirc it has a system where you units are always balanced for the map? As someone that loves trpgs I’ve always wished there was a little more advance wars in my fire emblem, so it sounds appealing at least in theory
It’s a turn based strategy game, I expect it to be slow. 🤷
Obviously I just received it today, so I’m not very far in it yet. No idea if the story or gameplay will be for me, but I’m excited to find out! I’ve seen a lot of praise for it over the years so it’s very satisfying to finally have the cart in my hands.
I will say so far, that I don’t appreciate having instructional pop-ups with every action I take for each turn - only needed those the first time. I also like (and also wonder if I’ll grow to dislike) the fact that I’m not controlling every single character on my team.
With games like this, my experience is that after a while you tune out the quirks and annoyances and just enjoy the game. Hopefully that happens for you, and sorry if I came off too negative, above.

I’m at an age where I’ve been playing them forever, so actually I pretty-much stick to only fast turn-based strategy games, with little or no backstory. The webgame “Compact Conflict” would be an example.
I went from the Sega master system to the first Xbox and I lived across from a high school and my roommates graduating senior tech nerd brother kept stealing network equipment to give me and I was like no, I want to hack the fucking Xbox, everything you steal from there has a uniquely identifying number tracing it back to the school, so I did liken old Sega games
