  • Depending on how you define “self-hosting”, I may qualify at that.

I’ve hosted my email on a remote VPS myself. I have not hosted the machine in my apartment.

I used postfix + dovecot + mysql stack, I have to admit it was the hardest thing I’ve ever configured and I’ve hosted a lot of services in my life.

In the end I ended up switching to the free service that came with the domain became no matter what I did and how compliant I was to dkim and SMARC and tkip (I’m probably butchering the name here, it’s been a long time) outlook accounts kept sending my emails to spam, everything else worked fine, even gmail, but DAMN Microsoft and how much I hate that company managed to fuck over me one final time even after years after I switch to Linux. I tried everything even the form to remove my email from spam.

Tl;Dr hosted email on a vps but couldn’t get past outlook spam filters

  • Those streaming sites have dreadful image quality, sometimes even audio is fucked. They are useful to check bits of the first episode before you commit to download from a high quality source.

I mean, you do you, but anime is a much more pleasant experience if you download a decent encode.

I’m not even saying to download SubsPlease or Erai-Raws, just Judas, EMBER, ASW, Cloe, etc. Look pretty good and only take about 200 to 300 MB per episode.

I understand that you don’t want to torrent, but, you’re ruining your experience. Besides torrenting easier than what you’re trying to do.

  • Please elaborate, sometime ago I got literally CSAM that I would never download on my iknowwhatyoudownload and I got ultra paranoid about it.

I assumed someone had hacked my router or had a libtorrent 0day and was trying to incriminate me as those torrents would only appear when I had qbittorrent open.

Caused me quite a lot of stress thinking that the cops would knock my door and take my computers at any moment.

I don’t use a VPN because that’s not required for torrenting in my country.

I know that I’m not behind a cgnat coz I can even forward port 80

  • You’re responsible for the technology you create.

So if I create a knife I’m responsible if someone uses it for murder?

Maybe I should implement a camera on the knife that records your kitchen 24/7 to make sure the knife wont be used for murder, is that OK with you?

    Unionize workers in Microsoft.

If you “unionize” microsoft and keep windows non-free software, the employees get better wages, apart from that the users still get spied upon, and the means of production (windows source code) still under ownership of a small group of people, (and just like any other operating system or knife, can) still used for nefarious purposes.

Even if the workers at the microsoft commune decide to made windows non-spyware anymore, there is still no way to actually be sure since there’s no way to verify it.

Also, proprietary software isn’t only a prime example of private ownership of the means of production, but also a prime example of artificial scarcity.

As long as it’s “Free Software” instead of “Free people” you’re playing on the side of the tech oligarchy.

Free software is a requirement for free people, if you don’t understand that, then you really have no understanding of how technology works, of how people work and how freedom works.

I recommend reading the following article: https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-even-more-important.html
