I really think everybody should simply refuse to use any of Google’s captchas anymore. There are others I don’t like either, but Google is the worst. If it’s something you need to use, report that the site doesn’t work.

I don’t think for tue average user it really matters much. If you’ve got multiple screens of different sizes or refresh rates, Wayland is the way to go. If you’ve got multiple identical screens that you want to treat as a single big screen, X11 is perfect for that.

The murder is absolutely terrible, but I’ve seen people online claim this is somehow worse than the murder of George Floyd, who was slowly murdered by a police officer over a period if 9 minutes, on camera, while people called for him to stop, and afterwards some people (even today) still defend the murderer.

Here, the murderer is obviously terrible, but the police just fucked up because they incorrectly judged the situation.

Nobody is defending the murderer, nobody is saying the police did the right thing, and the police was just being stupid rather than malicious, and corrected as soon as they discovered the error.

This is insane to me. Having a way to easily distinguish AI generated commits from human created ones makes a lot of sense, but lying that your honest, high quality handcrafted commit is AI slop makes it pointless.

That people feel they need to do this in order to protect their jobs is fucking insane and self destructive.

Age verification through facial recognition should be banned. Not only does it not work, it invaded privacy. Businesses have no business knowing what kids look like and shouldn’t be collecting this kind of personal information.

There are massive Minecraft servers handling hundreds or thousands of players simultaneously, but most are small of course.

Exactly. Money as a tool is fine. You need a way to pay for stuff. It’s the love of money, money as a goal in itself, far beyond what you’ll ever need to live, that’s the problem.

There are absolutely things that are more ethical than others. Absolute statements like that are unhelpful. Fairphone is not perfect, but a lot more ethical than the alternatives.

Sites need to stop using recaptcha. It’s an unnecessary barrier to using a site and I often refuse out of principle.

That’s my preferred strategy too. Currently building lego Rivendell, reading the Hobbit to my kid and looking for a new LotR edition to buy. (I want a modern Dutch edition with separate map, but it doesn’t seem to exist.)
